  • The Metal Aluminum Plays a Role in Causing Alzheimer’s

Apparently, the metal aluminum is one of the reasons behind Alzheimer’s disease.

Scientists have long suspected aluminum to be one of the culprits behind Alzheimer’s disease. Yet the evidence was lacking up until now. Thousands of people daily cook their food in aluminum implements and use crockery made from the metal.

The latest research however proves that it may indeed have a role to play in the genesis of the disease, according to The Hippocratic Post. Human exposure to aluminum has lasted for half a century and Alzheimer’s disease has also wreaked havoc during this period in history.

Yet the consensus is still partially lacking regarding this neurotoxin. However, the link is there and cannot be ignored. Those who contend that aluminum has no role in the disease would do well to consider the research on the matter.

That is because it concludes that there is too much evidence to let the matter go. While aluminum may not be the only factor, it is definitely one of the chief ones involved in the aetiology of Alzheimer’s.

The aluminum content of Alzheimer’s disease patients is higher than that of healthy and normal people.

Those who have been exposed to the insidious metal tend to develop the disease in their 50s and 60s. The comparison is too much to ignore.

Fluorescence microscopy was used in the analysis of aluminum-induced Alzheimer’s. Familial Alzheimer’s shows its symptoms as early as 30 or 40 years of age.

Yet it is a very rare disease, probably constituting less than 2%-3% of all cases of Alzheimer’s disease. A protein called amyloid-beta is ultimately responsible for Alzheimer’s. Age is the biggest factor by far though. It is essentially a disease of degeneration that arises with advanced age.

Besides the environment, occupation is a second source of this hazardous metal. Then there is also a genetic component. Many people tend to attract the aluminum towards their brains, while others remain free of any symptoms despite the exposure.

Aluminum has also been known to cause dialysis encephalopathy too. Its accumulation in the human brain causes a host of symptoms among which behavioral changes and amnesia tend to be the major ones.
