What was the Original Ending of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story?
  • Rogue One Intended Ending Was Not What Happened in the Movie

Director Gareth Edwards revealed that the reported re-shoots for the movie were not for the ending that everyone thought it was

Rogue One is in cinemas now. it has done record box office business and it will continue to dominate a major portion of the holidays. Now that the movie is out, the production and director Gareth Edwards are more comfortable about talking on the movie. Gareth Edwards recently participated in an interview to Empire in which he addressed some very well circulated rumors about the movie.

Like last year, many people complained that a lot of scenes that have been used in the trailers and teasers had not made their way into the final cut. This phenomenon was also one of the main controversies surrounding the DCEU Suicide Squad movie in which much of the Joker’s material was left out of the final cut of the movie.

For Rogue One, there was a rumor that Disney and Lucas film had scheduled re-shoots and remake of some scenes. Many assumed that it was to change a much bleaker end.

That includes the director himself Gareth Edwards. He said that they had thought that Disney would urge them to go for a much family friendly movie. He said that they would tell them to not kill of the main characters and they would somehow escape to another planet or something of another kind.

Gareth said that Lucas film’s Kathy and Disney actually approved of the idea to kill everyone. He said that they thought it made sense that the characters died because they are not a part of the plot of A New Hope which was released in 1977.

According to Gareth, the studios’ both agreed that the characters have to be killed off. That is the premise that made the movie’s final edit as we now see in the theaters.
