The first teaser trailer for Emoji Movie gives us the first look at what to expect from what seemed like an impossible movie

It seemed like an impossible movie project when Sony announced it earlier this year. The Emoji Movie based on the emojis that we use in texting every day. What seemed impossible at how such one-dimensional subjects could carry a movie on their own.

That seems to be the premise of the movie exactly. It features around a would be ‘meh’ emoji named Gene. In the world of Textopolis where everyone is assigned a single function, Gene has one big problem. He has too many expressions. Gene is supposed to be a Meh emoji like his father (Steven Wright), but he can’t constrain himself to one emotion which makes him a malfunction.

Gene embarks on an adventure with his friends; Hi-5 voiced by James Corden and Jailbreak voiced by Ilana Glazer, who also have their own scores to settle. Hi-5, for his part, is angry about getting bumped out of the “most used” emoji section, and is determined to reclaim his rightful place. The teaser trailer for the movie starts with Gene’s father, the meh emoji.

The teaser is set for viewing in vertical screen. The meh emoji says hello and introduces himself in a very ‘meh’, dull expression. He tells the audience that there first movie is coming out. Yay in mock enthusiasm laced with sarcasm. ‘It’s almost too thrilling for words,’ he says, ‘so bring the family. Doesn’t have to be your family.” The grim expression, the dull voice and the sarcasm makes it an interesting watch.

We then see the blue cone emoji complaining loudly, “So I told the management,” he says, “I can’t work like this. These lights, I’m melting in here. It’s such a load of…” he stops realizing that two blocks over, the poo emoji is listening everything with a stern expression. The poo emoji says coldly to cone emoji, “No go ahead, finish that sentence.”

It’s brief. It does not feature any of the main characters but it is an interesting watch and there may be hope for this movie after all.
