I've visited GameStop quite a bit in the last few weeks, trying to get the inside scoop on all things video games, and I've noticed something every time I've been there: an exasperation over the fact that they can't seem to keep the consoles in stock.

"To be honest, I'm annoyed that we have empty shelves. There are things in the back we could put there but we have to keep it open for the Switch or the NES. I wish Nintendo could figure it out, but I understand the approach," a local GameStop employee said.

For the most part, the NES stock has been handled and more people are getting their hands on the console. The Nintendo Switch, however, is another story - and it doesn't look like it is going to get any better for quite a while. Nintendo has reported doubled it production by doubling up over the next financial year, GameStop doesn't expect the problem to get solved until at least 2018, according to Business Insider.

GameStop's COO Tony Bartel explained the problem during the company's Q4 earnings call: "There's tremendous demand for [the Switch] and we just don't know how high it is because every time we get it out in our stores it's literally gone," Bartel said. He added that GameStop will have trouble throughout the entire year, including in the holiday season.

For now, you might have to resort to luck to get your hands on a Switch with our Nintendo Switch giveaway.
