Galaxy S8’s oddly placed fingerprint scanner was actually a last-minute solution to a bigger problem

A majority of people have blown the “dislike” horn when they found out that the fingerprint scanner on Galaxy S8 is placed all the way high up, next to the main camera. Makes you wonder, with all the researches and surveys and studies, and of course, Samsung’s own taste, how is it that the company made such a terrible design trait?

Well, the company didn’t. Samsung had the best fingerprint scanning solution we could have imagined; the one which Apple is pursuing right now for its iPhone 8. Yes, Samsung also made the decision to integrate a fingerprint scanning solution in the screen. According to a report which aired on 13th of March, Samsung unloaded huge investment in an “under-screen” fingerprint scanner which was to be developed by Synaptics.

Unfortunately, Samsung hit the sand hard when it was too close to production time to afford a setback. According to the report, the results of testing phase of the integrated fingerprint scanner were “terrible” and the company decided then and there to go to Plan B, which was the physical fingerprint scanner placed at the rear of the device.

Now, the stunning and beautiful model may have a flaw in its design, but we still can’t know with certainty if it will be hard to use the fingerprint scanner or not. We can only wait for the launch date to get our hands on the device so that we could assess whether the functionality of this scanner is as hard as it looks from the 3D renders.
