In recent research conducted by the British Heart Foundation, the results indicated that over 20 million people living in the UK are physically inactive.

In the current age of selfies and oversharing on social media, the modern world seems obsessed with working out and hitting the gym whereas the reality is completely different. In the real modern world behind the social media platforms, about 5 million deaths are attributed to obesity.

Obesity is one of the major diseases that has been inflicted on the modern-day world which leads to severe diseases including heart diseases, diabetes and cancer.

Among the many root causes which are the leading attributes of obesity including fast food and junk food, physical inactivity is one of the major causes, according to BBC.

In their recent research, British Heart Foundation found out after a survey that 20 million people living across the UK can be labelled as “physically inactive”.

The British Heart Foundation noted that anyone who is not achieving the government guidelines for physical activity, that is 150 minutes of moderate intensity physical activity a week and strength activities on at least two days a week; can be called physically inactive.

The study highlighted that women are 36% more likely to be inactive than men. Dr. Mike Knapton, Associate Medical Director at the British Heart Foundation said that levels of physically inactive and sedentary behavior which has been observed in the lifestyle among the people of UK is high.

These behavioral patterns can be presented as major attributing risk factors towards developing cardiovascular health as well as risk of early death.

He added that physical inactivity is one of the most significant global health crises of the moment. While many health experts are pushing for a healthier lifestyle mantra, people are continuing to live in their sedentary lives which in turn lead to severe health ailments.

The experts suggest that adopting an active lifestyle can help reduce the risk of cardiovascular and heart disease by 35% and also reduce the risk of early death by 30%.

The choice remains simple according to the results of the study that in order to live a healthier and longer life, you have to adopt an active lifestyle.
