New report claims that Apple has started to order iPhone 8 components in a big way.

The iPhone 8 is going to be the first iPhone with an OLED display. Apple has held off adopting OLED for years. Now the Cupertino consumer electronics giant is getting ready for the age of OLED with the iPhone 8. According to a source of Japanese Nikkei, Apple ordered 70 million OLED displays from Samsung.

The high number suggests that Apple is very confident about the 10th anniversary iPhone, scheduled to be released in late 2017.

The order volume fits the estimate by David Hsieh, senior director at research company IHS Markit. "Apple has ordered 70 million units of OLED panels from Samsung this year, while Samsung is preparing to churn out as many as 95 million for Apple in 2017, in case demand exceeds expectations," Hsieh said.

Apple is only sourcing OLED displays from Samsung, Hsieh told Nikkei. Samsung is supposed to produce 95 million OLED display for Apple specifications, just in case the 70 million units are not enough.

Apple is expected to launch three iPhones in 2017. The premium iPhone 8, which is rumored to cost more than $1,000, will feature curved OLED screen, think Samsung S8. The iPhone 8 is expected to have a 5.2 inch screen size. Rumored features of the iPhone 8 include AR, 3D camera sensor and wireless charging.

The other two new iPhone, measuring 4.7 inches and 5.5 inches will stick with liquid crystal display technology and flat screens. We believe that Apple will maintain the iPhone 7 design for these two new 2017 iPhones. Read more iPhone 8 rumors in our constantly updated round-up.
