Elon Musk revealed a clip showing the Model 3 production version is nearly identical to the prototype

On 31st March Tesla CEO Elon Musk released a short clip of anearly ready production version of Model 3. The six second clip containing the “release candidate” version of the upcoming Model 3 was released on Twitter.

What makes Tesla Model 3 one of the most anticipated cars coming in 2017?

The Tesla Model 3 is the company’s most affordable luxury model so far will rival the BMW 3 Series. The all-electric luxury sedan will arrive on roads late in 2017. The clip has no doubt assured the near 400,000 deposit holders the upcoming model will be true to the pre-production prototype in exterior design revealed last March.

Tesla is expected to already make over $10 billion or £7 billion in revenue if all these reservations are transferred into actual sales. The Model 3 is also the first all-electric vehicle by Tesla with mainstream appeal and mass production potential with a price tag of just $35,000 in the US, and £28,500 in the UK.

According to the clip limited production of the Model 3 will begin in July 2017 and production demand will be met by September 2017. Tesla is working towards being able to make 500,000 cars a year by 2018. The clip assures Tesla is on track with Model 3 production and will deliver the EVs by the fourth quarter of 2017.

Unlike other automakers Tesla has eschewed the practice of revealing its cars at motor shows. Instead Tesla takes it time to slowly tease and then reveal new details on social media and other online platforms. In March 2016 tesla first revealed the prototype design of the Model 3 and in October 2016 the upcoming model was confirmed to go autonomous in the near future. Now Tesla has revealed the car is ready for production.

The confirmed details on the Model 3 are its minimum range of 215 miles. The car will be equipped with advanced premium grade lithium ion batteries and all-electric powertrain. Tesla has also revealed the Model 3 will go from 0 to 60mph in just a mere 6seconds as a standard. Elon musk has promised faster versions of the Model 3 will be offered in the future and Tesla does not make slow cars.

The Model 3 was also revealed to be equipped with the 'Ludicrous Mode' in a tweet by Elon Musk. The Lubricious Mode is a software patch which can assist the driver in unlocking an increased electric drivetrain beyond the standard potential of the car. The same mode when applied in the Tesla Model S can take the car from 0 to 60mph in just a mere 2.3 seconds. However the software mode is optional and will be featured with a slight price hike.

As is the norm for Tesla cars the Model 3 will also come with two boots. One of the boots will be in the front while the other will be at the back. However the Model 3 will have no grille but a small scoop placed at the bottom edge of the bumper.

In line with its affordable theme the interior of the Model 3 is quite simple in design. The main cabin of the Model 3 mainly comprises of a large touchscreen. But the touchscreen has been mounted horizontally rather than vertically as found in other Tesla cars. The upper corner of the screen display features the speed and gear selection, while the bottom part shows climate controls.

The rest of the screen display is dedicated to maps and stereo controls. The steering wheel is small and squared off while the dash board is an unadorned strip of black and white. The center console bisects the front which has bucket seats. The rear window of the Model 3 extends right up. The extension goes over the roof to the B-pillars, of the model 3.

Meanwhile a large sunroof is positioned over the front seats which complete the illusion of an all-glass roof. The glass roof in the Model 3 also improves rear-seat headroom. Similarly to further enhance the illusion the front seats have been pushed forward so there is more legroom for passengers. This makes the legroom more acceptable and similarly the headroom is surprisingly more generous.

Other optional features of the upcoming Model 3 include a dual motor all-wheel drive. Buyers can also avail from a 300+ mile range on the Model 3 if they opt for the 75 kWh battery pack which slightly raises the price. A performance version the EV is also available which accelerates from 0–100 km/h in shorter than 6 seconds.

The upcoming first version of the Model 3 will contain an enhanced Autopilot convenience features but the full self-driving capability will not be released until a later update presumably in 2018. Some rumors also indicate the Model 3 could have solar charging capabilities. A vegan friendly (non-leather) interior option is also available for the interior trim. The performance version of the Model 3 will not be released before April 2018.

According to Tesla customers who reserved the Model 3 back in April 2016 will be the first ones to receive their cars in 2017. The second round of deliveries will be reserved for customers with bookings from May 2016 who will receive the Model 3 in late 2018.
