Uber Self-Driving Cars are the Worst
  • Recent Stats indicate that Uber Self-Driving cars are the Worst

A big NO to the self-driving cars by Uber as these are 5,000 times worse than Google's Waymo

Uber along with many other car ride providers is working on autonomous car technology. The ride sharing company has been conducting trials for its self-driving cars from the past few months.

However the recent statistics which have been gathered show that Uber cars are one of the worst self-driving cars. They are currently at the last position in the lineup of the famous six self-driving car companies.

It was thought earlier that the worst performance is shown by Waymo which is a self-driving project by Google. However these stats put Uber even below Waymo.

These driving statistics were generated by California. It was seen that the cab firm’s self-driving car experienced a phenomenon of “disengagement” when the automated system gives the control to a human.

This happens once in every mile which is being driven. A total of 20,354 miles were driven by Uber’s cars before they were banned from testing in California, according to The Guardian.

If we look at the stats of Waymo which is a project by Google, it shows disengagement after every 5,128 miles. The company has managed to drive more than half million miles in the last 12 months.

These stats also shine a light on the dispute between Waymo and Uber. According to the law suit which is filed by Waymo, it is said that Uber has stolen Waymo’s technology.

The technology that is in question is based on LIDAR system. It is a light based system which is used in self-driving cars so that the cars can see what is going around them.

Richard Windsor who is a research analyst at Edison Investment Research said that Waymo is 5000 times better than Uber according to these numbers. Other companies like BMW, Tesla and Nissan are also working on the technology but with much better stats.
