2017 iMac Aimed at Professionals Says Apple

This is exciting. Apple executive confirm new iMac for this Fall that will appeal to Pro users.

It totally makes sense to change the target market for the iMac towards professional users. Average consumers do their digital tasks on laptops, tablets and smartphones and do not need desktop computers anymore.

Lots of professional users like though to work on a big screen with an all-in-one design to avoid clutter. Apple executives have confirmed that the 2017 iMac comes later this year. Speaking to a small group of journalists last week, Apple Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing Phil Schiller said according to TechCrunch that the improved iMacs will appeal to a segment of Pro users, as well.

Apple did not give any specifics about the new 2017 iMac with pro appeal. A blog focused on Apple updates, followed up with a rumor what the new iMac would run on unreleased Intel Xeon Intel E3-1285 v6 processor. Customers could opt to upgrade the RAM to 64GB of ECC memory. Xeon CPUs are Intel's chips for small business servers, entry workstations, powerful mobile workstations, storage servers, cloud workstations/media transcode, and edge computing/IoT.

The 2017 iMac is also supposed to feature faster NVMe SSD’s, up to 2TB. The AMD graphics to support would enable virtual reality. Thunderbolt 3 and USB-C gen 2 are the new ports on the iMac. As rumored before the new iMac could come with new keyboard with touch bar.

Pike's Alpha's iMac 2017 specs rumor sounds a bit too like wishful thinking. An iMac with 64GB that has the graphics power to run a HTC Vive definitely sounds what I would buy. The blog report also mentions that the release of the 2017 iMac is in October.

The report did not mention the screen resolution of the 2017 iMac. While 8K displays are available now, the prices are still extremely high. It is likely that the new iMac sticks to 5K Retina displays. Read the 2017 iMac report to find out everything that is known so far about the next iMac.

The main topic of the small press conference was the Mac Pro. Apple tried to explained why it failed and that they work on a new Mac Pro that will coming 2018. Apple also confirmed to offer again a stand alone Apple Display.

Apple's Federighi spelled out again to journalists that Apple keeps on focusing on the Mac. "The Mac is — we say it over and over, we’re saying it again here — a huge part of our future, we’re deeply invested in it."
