Samsung works on Foldable Phone for Developers and Galaxy S9

The South Korean technology giant is back on track after the Note 7 fiasco.

Samsung has started to work earlier than ever on the next generation of the Samsung Galaxy S series. The new Samsung Galaxy S8 is not yet shipping, but Samsung engineers are working on key parts of the Samsung Galaxy S9. The first sample delivery of the display components are scheduled to be released mid-April.

According the Korean Herald, Samsung started to work on the Galaxy S9 6 months earlier than on previous iterations. This gives Samsung more time for quality control, a necessary move to avoid another Note 7 disaster.

The Galaxy S9 is still going to be featuring a regular screen, but as reported, the Galaxy S10 (Galaxy X) in 2019 could be the first Samsung smartphone with a foldable OLED display. To prepare for the foldable smartphone future, Samsung is releasing a developer version of a foldable smartphone. Korean ETNews cites sources saying that Samsung has prepared 2,000 to 3,000 units of a device with two 5-inch OLED displays.

This device does not yet use a flexible single OLED display. The result is though the same and good enough for user experience testing. Samsung is toying with foldable smartphone since years now. The so called Project Valley is real and eventually will lead to the Samsung Galaxy X in two years.

The Galaxy S8 has put Samsung back on track. The new flagship phone has broken the pre-order record in South Korea with 1 million pre-orders. Today is the last day to take full advantage of the Samsung Galaxy S8 pre-order offer at Sam's Club.
