Original Nintendo NES Classic Edition Controller Missing in Action

Nintendo is not shipping new supplies of the original $9.99 Nintendo NES Controller, but does it matter?

The Nintendo NES Classic console continues to be hard to find. Stores have restocked the NES Classic over the past week, but demand is still not met. To find a NES Classic is possible, but it is impossible to find an original NES Classic controller.

The $9.99 Nintendo NES Classic controller was in stock online in February at Walmart the last time. The wired NES controller from Nintendo is not in stock anywhere for the most part of 2017.

Nintendo seems to need all controllers they can manufacture for the console package.

Lots of third party companies have jumped in and offer alternatives to the original Nintendo NES controller.

There are models that have longer cables than the original controller. The biggest issue with the original NES Classic controller is the short cable.

The best experience provide though wireless NES Classic controller. These wireless controllers are not expensive. The Nyko MiniBoss for NES Classic Edition is on sale for $17.22 on Amazon.com.

There are plenty of wired and wireless 3rd party NES Controllers that sell for around $10. Find a list of controller below. Several resellers offer still the original Nintendo NES Controller for $39.99 on Amazon.com. This is though four times the regular price. The NES reseller offers start just below $120, plus $3.99 shipping on amazon.com from legit appearing resellers.

About the NES Classic

The $59.99 Nintendo NES Classic Edition console launched on November 11 in stores and online. The supply was extremely constraint in stores and especially online.

The palm-sized NES console, retailing for $59.99 list price, features the classic Nintendo NES controller many geeks have grown up with. The retro console comes pre-installed with 30 classic NES games including Super Mario Bros., Pac-Man, Metroid, Donkey Kong, The Legend of Zelda and Kirby's Adventures. The NES Classic Edition system is a miniaturized version of the groundbreaking NES, originally released in 1985.

The Holiday shopping season 2016 has been dominated by the hunt for Hatchimals and the Nintendo NES classic edition. The NES Classic demand is still strong amidst ongoing shortage. The Best Buy NES Classic and Switch sale on March 29 was worse than a Black Friday sale. We don't expect the sitaution to improve in 2017. The NES Classic will be a hard to find item into the Holiday shopping season 2017.
