  • NASA takes Aerial View of Newly-Formed Chasm in Glacier in Greenland

NASA has taken what is an aerial view of a newly-formed chasm in the Petermann Glacier in Greenland.

The quickly melting and breaking down of glaciers is one of the biggest signs of climate change being rampant despite what some of our leaders may say. These rifts in the frozen ice sheets of glaciers may have a ruinous impact on other places on the planet.

To spot these sensitive areas and note down the trends, researchers have gauged transformations in glaciers. This has been possible thanks to expeditions and satellite viewing.

A researcher recently noticed a growing crack in the Petermann Glacier via satellite images. This glacier is situated in Greenland. The scientific community and especially climate change scientists have become apprehensive regarding this new and dangerous development.

NASA had one of its satellites make a flyover above the region and take snaps of the rift that are crystal clear in their appearance. This rift was first noted down by a researcher named Stef Lhermitte. He tweeted the finding soon and by now it has become a part of the climate change dialogue going on around the world.

This rift has been slowly but steadily expanding and lengthening in its relentless path since the very hot summer that transpired last year. By now, the dignified members of the scientific community are astir.

While not all the people are worried sick regarding the discovery, they all agree that it is there and there are no two ways about it. They have also reached a common consensus regarding the fact that something from below the surface caused the rift to appear in the first place. That is because cracks normally start from the edge but this one has begun from the middle region.

Whether this novel crack will spell danger and trouble remains to be seen. It is a completely unprecedented occurrence and hence not much can be said about it right now. One thing which can be said with certainty is that the glacier has grown thin towards the middle which is not a good sign.

Besides this, the satellite imagery which comes courtesy of NASA is still not showing the rift in a highly close-up manner. So an aircraft belonging to NASA was flown above this locus to confirm that the rift was in its formative phase.

Also another fact that has emerged is that this rift will soon connect up with another older and wider rift in Greenland. While not everything can be prognosticated at the present moment in time, the signs are not good at all. They point towards mankind’s interventionist nature which has wreaked havoc on this otherwise wonderful planet of ours.
