Apple TV Rumor Hints at Mutli-user and PiP Mode via tvOS 11

Apple TV may finally get some love with a new OS

Apple tends to let just about all of its products this side of the iPhone lay fallow for extended periods, at times years, between updates. One of the most ignored bits of Apple tech is the Apple TV. A new rumor is floating around about the Apple TV that claims a new version of the OS called tvOS 11 is on its way.

tvOS 11 is tipped to launch at WWDC in June and will bring with it at least two features that users have wanted for a long time. The features include support for multiple users and picture-in-picture mode. With multiple user mode, each user account can have content tailored to the person using the Apple TV. This rumor, according to AppleInsider, says that each user will see their own personal Apple music, iCloud, and iTunes content along with apps that they have installed.

Installing these profiles is expected to be a one time and done affair and switching between the users will be as easy as changing channels according to the rumor. Work on the updated OS is said to be at an advanced stage, but like many things announced at WWDC, the software might not actually launch until later.

Picture-in-picture mode is expected to be similar to what is already seen on the Mac and iPad platforms. This would essentially allow the Apple TV user to watch a streaming program in one corner of the screen while browsing other content on the main screen.
