Once Upon a Time announced a musical episode coming up in the currently ongoing season and we are reviewing the top 5 musical episodes that have been featured on different TV shows previously

It has become a thing of sorts recently. With more actors showing off their vocal talent in singing, fans want to see their favorite characters from their favorite TV shows to sing and totally let lose their singing talent even just for one episode. One of the shows that has been asked again and again by the fans to make a musical episode is Once Upon a Time. The show is based on a town with various fairy tale characters and it seems like a perfect fit to feature musical numbers. The show finally announced that they will be doing a musical episode in the current season and musical lover fans are excited. While we wait for the episode to finally arrive, we reviewed the top 5 musical episodes that have been featured in TV shows previously;

Buffy the Vampire Slayer “Once More With Feeling”
In the Season 6 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the episode 7 was titled “Once More With Feeling” and it featured the entire cast singing out their hidden secrets under the influence of the power of a demon named Sweet. Buffy’s musical episode proved that musical content can be done well on TV and gave us some of the best vocals from the cast.

Scrubs“My Musical”
Scrubs made it’s attempt on a musical in Season 6, episode 6 titled “My Musical” where a patient passes out. When she wakes up, she sees the world in a musical version where the doctors and staff of Sacred Heart are all singing and dancing around her. It was a shining example for TV musicals where the cast showed off their vocal talent to add to their comedic genius for which the show was known for.

Grey’s Anatomy “Song Beneath the Song”
Grey’s Anatomy tackled it’s attempt on making a musical episode in Season 7, episode 18 “Song Beneath the Song”. With nothing funny in mind, the song was based on Callie Torres’s accident in which she fights for her life and the doctors of Seattle Grace Mercy West struggle to save her life. It was not an interactive musical save for one song. Majority of the times, the doctors sang alone with no one listening to them as the episode concentrated on tackling the themes of self-analysis and faith. The episode featured soundtrack from previous seasons which made some of the Grey’s Anatomy moments iconic including “How to Save a Life” and “Chasing Cars”.

Community “Regional Holiday Music”
There are not many shows that are self-aware in concept and the idea of execution in mind but Community is luckily one of the shows that was always aware of what they were doing. The Season 3, episode 10 of the show took on Ryan Murphy’s Glee head on and spoofed the hell out of it. The episode concentrated on some of the key elements of the intended show including making it to the Regionals and Finals and qualifying to perform at the Christmas pageant. The creators and the cast of Community pulled off the episode to perfection with every song setting perfectly into the sequence.

The Flash “Duet”
The most recent show to tackle a musical episode was CW crossover for The Flash and Supergirl. In the Season 3, episode 13 titled “Duet”; the super powered duo was send into a musical infused world Music Meister played by Glee alum, Darren Criss. The episode was quirky, lively and entertaining. It was a success in many ways of the top of the hat for the creators although it was a one-time thing where the characters were somewhat as confused as the audience about what was really going on.
