Apparently, going to work by bicycle halves the chances of contracting cancer and cardiac disease.
Those people who are health-oriented and choose to go by bicycle to work rather than on a bus or car tend to slash their rates of heart attack and cancer by half. The novel research on the matter has shown that better biking paths need to be constructed for the sake of these fitness buffs.

Cycling tends to lower the risk of cancer among cyclists by 45%. Also CV disease can be reduced by 46%. The study took place in a quarter of a million people so it carries a lot of weight.
Even walking to work has many health benefits. Yet it is not the same as cycling to one’s professional premises. Over 264,337 volunteers were questioned regarding how they proceeded to their places of work.
Their vital signs and health stats were monitored for half a decade. The results were buffered for such variables as age, gender, health issues, smoking and nutritional status.
On the whole, the people who cycled to work had a 41% lower risk of early death from a number of health problems. This was compared to the sedentary lot who went to work by bus or car.
Thus this research has important implications for the future. All roads and pathways for cycling to work must be made safe for the fitness buffs. Thus health indicators will be improved via this drive to promote a more active lifestyle among the citizens of Great Britain.
Cycle lanes, cycle hire and purchase schemes and making way for cycle pathways in public transport will be the order of the day from now onwards. Meanwhile those who walked to work had a 27% lower risk of contracting CV disease. Also they had a 36% lower risk of dying from it.
Yet among the individuals who walked to work, cancer rates did not decline. Thus in order to stave off such malignant diseases as cancer, cycling was the ideal form of exercise.
Also mixed means of commuting which involved some physical and some sedentary activity in them were associated with some health benefits, according to BBC.
Yet once again, cycling had to be a big part of this drive otherwise the health benefits would not accrue to the individuals. It is the overall shift from cars and buses to physically active modes of transportation that was the crucial factor here.
Shifting to cycling or walking could not only save lives but save up on many lengthy stays in the hospitals. This counted for individuals who caught heart disease and cancer later on in life due to their sedentary lifestyle choices.
