Freeform is giving TV a new direction. A collaborative TV network between ABC and Disney, the network is now the official channel to broadcast some of ABC Family’s biggest hits including Pretty Little Liars, and Switched at Birth for their final seasons. While the older shows are drawing to an end and a pretty healthy line of shows including Shadowhunters and Stitchers already adding to its great lineup, the network has announced five series that will be coming to the lineup soon. It’s Disney and ABC already and Disney might have worked some of it’s magic to bring this Marvel comic to Freeform. Aimed at a YA audience, the Marvel Cloak and Dagger will explore the origin story of the superpowered duo who will navigate through their own difficult life and upbringing to find their way to each other and discover their powers. The trailer for the show has already been released and it set to a darker tone. The show will premiere in 2018 with 10 episodes’ season. The show has been co-produced by Marvel Television and ABC Signature Studios. Joe Pokaski serves as showrunner and executive producer along with Marvel head of television Jeph Loeb and Jim Chory.
Marvel’s New Warriors
Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger is not the only show heading to Freeform. Marvel’s live-action comedy series Marvel’s New Warriors in scheduled to premiere on Freeform with ten 30 minute episodes. The show features six characters and their coming of age story as they develop powers quite opposite to the Avengers and their belief that they can save the world but really end up getting in trouble. The show is co-produced by Marvel Television and ABC Signature Studios. Marvel’s Loeb and Chory are executive producers along with Kevin Biegel who is also the showrunner.
Taking a step away from the world of comic but not fantasy fiction, Freeform announced that they have confirmed a ten episode season for the Sirens. Set to premiere in Summer 2018, the show is based in Bristol Cove where mermaids were rumored to live. One girl’s arrival in town reawaken the folklore that had surrounded the town for so long. The trailer for the show has already arrived and it sets the scene for a dark story to be discovered where trust is one of the hardest thing to come. Eric Wald, Dean White, Emily Whitesell, Brad Luff, Nate Hopper and RD Robb serve as executive producers on the show.
Coming from Lonely Island, Esther Povitsky and BenjiAflalo are two friends who struggle to survive and live in Los Angeles. The show is set to premiere earlier next year and it will be a mix of humor, friendship, serious relationships and struggles of two young people living in one of the most exciting cities in the world. The show is executive produced by Andy Samberg, JormaTaccone, Akiva Schaffer, Billy Rosenberg and Hunter Covington along with Povitsky, Aflalo and Eben Russell.
The Bold Type
The trailer for this exciting new show just hit and it is a powerhouse for feminism. A story of three friends working in an editorial magazine that proclaims that they sell more than make and clothes. The show has a modern twist of today’s working woman, the struggles and the excitement of working with the elite and the celebrity. The show is set for a two-hour premiere and stars Katie Stevens, Aisha Dee, Meghann Fahy, Sam Page, Matt Ward and Melora Hardin. You can expect to catch the show on July 11th at 9 p.m. ET.
