Elon Musk is to be CEO of Neuralink, an AI company, after already being the CEO of both Tesla Motors and SpaceX. His new company will be building the world’s first brain-machine interface within an eight to ten years time span.
Elon Musk has hitched his wagon to a star. Literally. The CEO of Tesla Motors and SpaceX wants to also be the CEO of a novel kind of company bearing the title Neuralink. This is an AI company that will connect the human brain to a computer via an interface.

That is through a micron-sized device. Such an arrangement will work in favor of people with handicaps and brain lesions such as those with strokes and cancer. Musk has said that the plans are to make the brain-machine interface operate in a telepathic manner.
The sort of computers we are talking about will be so super-cool and hyper-intelligent that they will almost seem to have the sort of power possessed by a Greek mythological demiurge.
In fact, Musk has said that human beings will need to implant neural laces in their brains to just keep up with the rapid pace of information flowing through this interface.
The compression required to wrap your head around this whole idea of a mind-machine interface is indeed mind-boggling in its capacity to confuse and amaze.
Elon Musk said in an interview to Wait But Why, "If I were to communicate a concept to you, you would essentially engage in consensual telepathy. You wouldn’t need to verbalize unless you want to add a little flair to the conversation or something (laughs), but the conversation would be conceptual interaction on a level that’s difficult to conceive of right now."
Humans may even be able to share stuff like thoughts, feelings and ideas with each other without direct communication via this arrangement. The technology will take eight to ten years to reach full fruition.
Till then, Musk will be busy doing all he can to see to the rise and progress of his brainchild. Neuralink’s future seems secure. It may be the boldest of ventures started by Musk though.
Making electric cars with batteries is good. Making human beings into an intergalactic species is excellent. However, unleashing telepathic powers into the very context of the scene is simply flabbergasting in its scope and vision.
This is simply a case of extending human brains beyond their normal functions. It all started out so many millions upon millions of years ago with a sponge. Then it led in the line of evolution to a jellyfish.
Further on down the road were such creatures as flatworms, rodents, mammals such as frogs, monkeys and the first human beings. Finally thanks to language and culture not to mention the products of the mind, human beings ended up being the dominant species on the planet.
Now we are onto another turning point in the planetary consciousness. This is where the brain as wetware melds with the software that is a common feature of computers. It is the age of post-humanism.
Hybrid organisms like cyborgs and bionic creatures will be the order of the day soon. That is if Elon Musk is successful in his efforts at pushing the envelope even further than it is supposed to go.
