X Files Season 11 Confirmed: 5 Facts to Know Before Watching on Fox
  • 5 Facts to Know Before Watching Season 11 of The X Files Just Confirmed by Fox

Fox confirmed another limited season of the sci-fi cult series The X Files and here are the 5 things you need to know before you can watch the latest season

Sometimes, the show is bigger than the critics and in more recent times it has been seen that the shows which have attained cult status are hard to put down. Among those shows is the sci-fi giant, The X-Files. A series spanning over 10 years and three films and introducing the world to the dynamic duo of Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, The X-Files had ended its run of TV in 2002. It tried to revive the plot with the movie The X-Files: I Want to Believe but it did not work out well and everyone thought that The X-Files was done for good. That theory was proven wrong as Fox confirmed a limited six-episode revival of the series which premiered on the network in 2016 and despite the negative commentary from the critics, the new season was watched by 16 million viewers.

This might be the reason that Fox has confirmed one more season for the show comprising of ten episodes. X-Philes are excited and these are the five facts from season 10 or the revival that you need to remember before you watch season 11.

A New Theory

Much of the premise of the initial nine seasons was based on Mulder’s solid belief that there were aliens that were planning to take over Earth and wipe out human civilization. His belief was strongly dictated by the fact that he believed that his sister had been abducted by aliens to conduct experiments. However, over the years, Mulder and Scully’s led them to believe that the alien theory might not be entirely true. So in season 10, Mulder came up with a new theory that it was actually a human group that was using alien technology to eradicate the world population and rule the world. This theory has already been discussed in the previous seasons but the alien invasion was never repelled. In this theory, alien involvement was discarded to some extent and human race was blamed for the entire fascist agenda.

William is Alive

While we did not see him in the entire season, William was a very prominent character in the season 10. William was the biological son of both Agent Mulder and Agent Scully and the audience was led to believe that William was born with alien DNA which had been incorporated in Scully’s DNA when she had been abducted and experimented on. William was given away for adoption for protection but we see Agent Scully imagining about her son as a normal teenager and eventually he is mentioned to be the donor for Mulder’s stem cell transplant to cure him from a sickness.

New Mulder and Scully

One of the highlights of season 10 was the introduction of the two new agents, Miller and Einstein who were in some capacity the next generation versions of Mulder and Scully. The agents help Mulder and Scully investigate the cases at hand and even help put a refresher in the audience’s mind of how Mulder and Scully used to be and the challenge of the older agents dealing with the new ones.

Syndicate Returned

In the twist and turns of the season finale, we see the return of two characters. Agent Monica Reyes, who became the leading character in the season 9 of the show whilst she investigated the X-Files. Reyes reveals to Scully that she has been working with another known character, Cigarette Smoking Man in preparation of the intended takeover of the world by one of the previously known organization, the Syndicate which was believed to have been destroyed previously. Reyes reveals that she has been trying to halt the investigation for the previous 12 years.

A Dangerous Virus

In the season finale, it was revealed that the Syndicate had developed and infected the American population with the Spartan virus. Developed with alien DNA, the virus disabled the immune system of the infected people. People with alien DNA were immune to the Spartan virus. Scully being an alien DNA carrier develops a vaccine with Agent Einstein. Mulder who is infected with the virus is found by Miller and as soon as he arrives, Scully tries to save him but it is shown that a triangular aircraft hovers over Mulder, Scully and Miller and that is where the upcoming season will continue from.
