Riz Ahmed
Riz Ahmed is a new face in Hollywood. Hailing from Britain, the actor has made his mark on Hollywood with a serious and critically acclaimed role in the HBO The Night Of where he played the role of a persecuted Pakistani immigrant for murder. Riz also starred in arguably the biggest hit of 2016, Rogue One. Riz has also been very vocal about the political climate of the world, Islamophobia and activism.

Viola Davis
She finally won an Oscar this year for her role in Fences but we know that Viola is more than that really. She is putting down all boundaries by playing one of the most iconic roles on primetime TV in How to Get Away with Murder as Annalise Keating. She is also very vocal about being an African American, being a woman and thriving in Hollywood.

Donald Glover
Atlanta. That is all you need to hear to know that Donald Glover is one of the voices that you could not have missed in the past year. He wrote, produced and starred in the show Atlanta which is a depiction of the lives of black people living in the city and how the history and present affects their lives. Donald has been very active for Black Lives Matter movement and the Presidency.

Leslie Jones
Leslie Jones is the regular face on Saturday Night Live and we have seen her play many roles effectively every Saturday. This year was different for Jones as she came on the front of the debate with some positive and negative light being shed on her. Leslie showed her spirit for 2016 Olympics and even got invited to attend and commentate for the games event, she starred in the all-female remake of Ghostbusters and she was caught in a nude photo scandal following a scandal with Twitter who did not take any action against the harassment that she faced on the social media network.

Sarah Paulson
Sarah Paulson is Ryan Murphy’s golden girl because everything she touches turns to gold. Just ask the Emmy and the Golden Globe that American Crime Story: People Vs. O.J. Simpson won. Sarah was an integral part of making the show a success with her role as Billie Dean Howard. She also made American Horror Story fans really excited with her triage of roles in season 6.

Jordan Peele
Jordan Peele has been a great influence in shaping various fields of cinema this year not just with his acting but with his writing as well. The Peabody winning actor and writer has put out content in televised and standup comedy that has shed light on all the presently oppressing issues.

Ben Platt
Ben Platt, a face you might know from the Pitch Perfect sequel, was also among the actor who made it to the list. He was very influential in another medium of performance and that is the theatre. His performance in the play 'Dear Evan Hansen' has won over many critics and audience alike.

Ryan Reynolds
If you don’t know why Ryan Reynolds has to be on this list, then you have been living under a rock. The man did the most influential thing in the world. He succeeded in convincing the world that comic book movies can be R-rated and a big super-duper hit. His role in Deadpool as Deadpool has changed the comic book movies world forever and he also got his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Margot Robbie
After some time away, Margot Robbie came back with a bang this year. She starred in three films in 2016 but her most iconic role emerged in the crazed female villain, Harley Quinn. In a movie that reportedly bombed with the critics, none can deny Robbie’s presence and acting in the movie to the standard where she was credited to have carried the whole movie with her performance. Margot has made an entire generation fall in love with Harley Quinn.

Emma Stone
Emma Stone won the Oscar for Best Actress this year for her role in Damien Chazelle’s musical La La Land. Emma has been humble and down to Earth throughout the whole experience and she had voiced her support for people who have been struggling with their lives and goals, her words resonating with thousands of individuals who found hope in her success.

Constance Wu
Known for her quirky and amazing performance in the comedy series, Fresh off the Boat; Constance Wu has been vocal about casting of Asian actors in Hollywood. Her more prominent influential activism might be calling attention to Casey Affleck’s record of sexual harassment and how it should not be overlooked while he was being nominated for Oscar for Best Actor. The actor went on to win the coveted trophy but it was Wu’s tirade against him that made many question Hollywood’s standards for the awards’ nomination criteria.
