"Avatar 2" will be released on Dec. 18, 2020

The long-awaited sequels to James Cameron’s blockbuster movie “Avatar” finally get their official release dates.

“Avatar 2” is scheduled to release on Dec. 18, 2020. The third installment of the series will be out Dec. 17, 2021, followed by the fourth and fifth sequels on Dec. 20, 2024 and Dec. 19, 2025.

The news was announced in a social media statement, along with the picture of Cameron and the crew.

“Great to be working with the best team in the business! Avatar takes flight as we begin concurrent production on four sequels.” The statement reads.

The original “Avatar” was released in 2009. It was the biggest box office hit of all-time, beating James Cameron another movie “Titanic.” The movie made $2.8 billion worldwide.

Avatar's subsequent sequels were initially scheduled for 2014 and 2015 but their release dates were pushed back multiple times due to script issues – before the latest rescheduled release dates.

Cameron has long said that he has enough script material for four Avatar sequels. Unlike traditional way, the sequels will not be filmed in succession. All four sequels will be shot simultaneously and depict a connected story that will be more within the framework of a miniseries than a film series.

“We have decided to embark on a truly massive cinematic project, making four epic films, each of which stands alone but together forms a complete saga,” Cameron told in an earlier statement.

To have four major movie productions running at one time appears to be a difficult task, especially considering the fact that they have been delayed so many times before. The legendary director must be under immense pressure to get them done in time.
