Apple has employed Google execs for its novel hardware group.

After its series of revolutionary iPhones, Apple is into self-driving cars and experimentation with augmented reality. It has started looking up as well. We mean that literally. A pair of top Google satellite executives have been hired by Apple to fill in the missing slots in its new hardware team. Those in the know have revealed this much with certainty. John Fenwick and Michael Trela have joined Apple recently. They had defected from Google.

These two execs in turn are answerable to Greg Duffy. These gentlemen have requested that the nitty gritty plans of Apple not be revealed in their entirety. Some things are best kept under wraps. Satellite design and operation will get a stimulus from the inclusion of these execs.

Apple has got a good thing going. The operations fall into two categories: satellites that collect images and those which deal in communication. Boeing Company has plans for providing broadband access via 1000 satellites, according to Bloomberg.

Boeing is in talks with Apple regarding investing in the company. What remains a mystery is whether the talks have proved fruitful or ended inconclusively.

There was talk regarding Boeing’s project being funded by Apple. It goes without saying that Apple may want such a state of affairs. Elon Musk’s SpaceX has reported that it will be raking in revenues amounting to $30 billion from Satellite Internet by the time 2025 comes along.

Apple, Google and Facebook all want to link up billions of people who don’t have Internet facility. Boeing wants such a scheme that will allow low latency and quicker relay. Yet there is no surety that Apple will jump on the Boeing bandwagon.

The problem seems to be the risky side of this venture. Bankruptcy and failure litter the pathway beaten by pioneers in this field. Examples include Iridium LLC and Teledesic.

In fact, when you see it from this angle, you realize that Apple may have hired Google execs for some other purpose than just satellite manufacturing. Drones and high altitude balloons are most likely what may be in store.

Whatever is happening behind the scenes is of such a nature that it may only be known fully when it is finalized by Apple. Apple has this tendency of keeping mum about things till the last moment.
