Galaxy S9 Rumored for Snapdragon 845 Chipset Exclusivity

S9 could have an exclusive on the Snapdragon 845 for at least a while

The Galaxy S8 smartphone hasn't been on the market very long and rumors about the next product in the line are already turning up. The rumor making the rounds as reported by TechTimes suggests that Samsung and Qualcomm will again team up for the S9 and that the device will have a Snapdragon 845 chipset under the hood.

The launch of the S9 is seen as at last a year away for now. The rumor figures that Samsung and Qualcomm will team up for the high-end processor used inside the device. Samsung devices have traditionally used a processor made and sold under Samsung's own brand in some markets, presumably this would happen in the Galaxy S9 as well.

The new rumor suggests that the S9 might have an exclusive hold on the Snapdragon 845 processor for at least a limited time. Qualcomm rumors have suggested that the first SoC in the Snapdragon 84x line will land later this year, but there is some doubt as to whether this chip would be the Snapdragon 840 or the 845.

If there is any validity to the rumor that the S9 will have exclusive hold on the 845, the chip launching later this year would have to be the Snapdragon 840 since we are still at least a year away from the S9 launch. Qualcomm wouldn't want to launch a new chip without having hardware ready to go along with it.
