Japanese video game maker Nintendo has not one, but two hot selling consoles on the market.

Update: Nintendo released its earnings numbers with details Switch sales numbers and forecast.

Nintendo was in the lucky position to have two hot selling consoles. Earlier this month, Nintendo killed one of their consoles. The $59.99 Nintendo NES Classic is still in red hot demand, but Nintendo did not expect that too happen.

The badly received decision to discontinue the NES Classic is likely attributed to thin margins. Nintendo also has no way of monetizing game sales on the NES Classic and had to watch how hackers packed 2,500 games on the little box. The last NES Classic units are arriving until end of April according to Nintendo. The current list of stores where to find a rare NES Classic is rather short.

Nintendo is releasing its fiscal earning numbers on April 27. The company will likely break out the sales numbers of the NES Classic. If the company discusses their decision to discontinue the NES Classic is unlikely. We also do not expect Nintendo to announce the rumored SNES Classic.

Nintendo launched a 80s retro console on November 11, 2016. The Nintendo NES Classic developed into a surprise success. Nintendo struggles to make enough units since launch. As of December 31, 2016, Nintendo sold 1.5 million NES Classic Edition. The NES Classic continued to be in high demand after Christmas.

We predict that Nintendo sold 1 million NES Classic consoles in Q1 of 2017. The number could be higher, if Nintendo would supply more units. The NES Classic reseller prices are now 400% above the list price. Marketplace prices of the NES Classic are around $300.

We already know the first sales numbers for the Switch ahead of the April 27 earnings release. Nintendo announced on April 14 the Nintendo Switch sales numbers for the first month. The Switch is the fastest selling console in Nintendo's history. Nintendo sold over 900,000 Switch consoles in the United States in the first month. Research firm SuperData estimates that Nintendo sold 2.4 million Switch consoles world-wide.

Nintendo launched the Nintendo Switch on March 3, 2017. The company has not released official sales numbers for the new hybrid console. The $299.99 Nintendo Switch is almost as hard to find as the NES Classic. Research firm SuperData estimated mid-March that Nintendo sold 1.5 million Switch consoles world-wide. The Switch beat the PS4 in reaching 500,000 units in Japan, according to a numbers of Media Create.

Nintendo's stock has been rising in the past weeks. It slowed down in early April. The earnings release on April 27 could give Nintendo's stock price a new push, in case the financials and the outlook satisfy investors. Read the latest NES Classic stock updates.
