Amazon Echo and Google Home are rumored to get competition from Apple, or are they?

Apple's voice assistant Siri does not understand me. I have stopped trying to use her on my iPhone. My new Amazon Echo understands me without any problem in German and English. Alexa also understands my kids. Apple's rumored Siri home device would need to be extremely "magical" to displace the Amazon Echo in my home.

Apple apparently realized that a Home Siri device cannot compete with the Amazon Echo and Google Home. The Cupertino based bank ($250 billion in cash) has decided to escape to the high-end, according to KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. In a research note seen by AppleInsider, he claims that the Apple Siri device will have rich sound delivered by 7 tweeters and a subwoofer. The new Apple device is running on a custom CPU with the power of the A8 CPU found in the iPhone 6.

The Apple Home Device will also include the W1 chip for easy Bluetooth management. It is assumed that the Siri gadget will work with Apple's homekit for home automation.

Apple needs to step up Siri quite a bit to make the Siri gadget a usable home device. Siri does supports 18 languages, while Amazon focused on English and just recently launched German. I prefer though talking to a voice assistant who understands two languages perfectly.

I am confident though that Apple will present a wonderful story about the new Siri home device that will make me want to own one. This story needs to be magical. Apple is rumored to unveil the new home device as early as at the WWDC 2017 next month.
