TSMC Reportedly Begins Apple A11 Chip Production for iPhone 8
  • TSMC Starts production of Apple A11 Chip for iPhone 8 with 10nm Process

The latest event which occurred was that TSMC ordered 12nm microchips for its myriad products.

TSMC has gotten a large order of 12nm chips from among other firms: NVIDIA, MediaTek, Silicon Motion Technology and HiSilicon. This act could give Samsung and Global foundries a run for their money.

The 12nm microchip is a smaller version of the company’s erstwhile 16nm chip. AI computing and self-driving cars will figure in the mix of products that will receive a stimulus from this technology.

According to Digitimes, TSMC has begun manufacturing the Apple A11 SoC as well. This will exist in the iPhone 8 which is due to come out later this year.

TSMC will be the sole supplier of A11 chips for Apple. Also the iPhone 7s has this microchip in it. The iPhone 8 meanwhile will pack a 3 GB RAM in it. Thus the new iPhone 8 will be getting a novel processor.

Most of the preliminary stages in this deal between TSMC and other companies for its microchip technology have been covered so far. The production process faced hurdles along the way but now it is just smooth sailing all the way through.

The iPhone 8 has a 4.7 inch model with an LCD display screen. Then there are two alternative versions too with 5.5 inch and 5.8 inch screens respectively.

They however have OLED display screens. The overall design of the mobile sets have also undergone revision and alteration. They are not the same as before. That is a good thing since customer feedback dictates what the future design of the products will look like.

What worked in the past may not work in the future. So change is the law of life. The pre-orders will be taken by Apple Inc. for its iPhones soon. TSMC’s microchips will make these iPhones even more special.
