Echo Show Put In Its Place by Echo and Dot

The new Echo Show was the top selling product for a day, but now its Alexa siblings are ahead again.

Amazon launched the Echo Show Alexa device on Tuesday through a pre-order. The new intelligent display and speaker is shipping end of June. Early adopters apparently have been waiting for a voice controlled smart display that allows to make video and voice calls on top of the features of the original Echo.

The black Echo Show has topped the electronics top seller charts on amazon.com in the first 48 hours of the launch. The $229.99 Echo Show outsells the Echo Dot and Echo. Now the Echo Show is ranked only 4th. The Echo Dot and Echo are outselling the newcomer again.

The Echo is still onl sale for $149.99 in the big Amazon Devices sale going on all week. The Echo Dot 2nd generation is selling at its regular $49.99 price.

Consumers who ordered an Echo Show do not need a review pundit to tell them too. Amazon has not yet made Echo Show units available for review. There are no Echo Shows reviews online at the moment. The trust in Amazon to make a great gadget is at the level of Apple.

The Echo Show is just another step in Amazon's grinding the very concept of the personal computer into dust, says Chris Messina in an analysis of how Alexa will change personal computing.

"In its place it is positioning Alexa, an AI artifice that lives in the cloud and with whom you build a lifetime relationship. You will buy devices to gain access to her, for sure, just like at one time you might have bought a landline or a cell phone to call your family members—staying in touch was that important. Now you’ll do the same to stay connected to Alexa. You’ll buy technology not for its specs but for the access it grants you," concludes Messina on Medium.

This future is one of the reason I bought an Echo. This way my young kids get exposed early to this future of interaction with computers and learn how to best leverage them.

The Amazon Echo Show comes with still with a great deal right out of the gate. Customers who buy two Echo Show devices receive a $100 discount with code SHOW2PACK.

Amazon's new Echo device offers video calling on a 7-inch touch screen. Other features include voice over ip phone calls and displaying answers on screen. Users will be able to ask Alexa to pull up products from the amazon online shop and answers from the net.

Users can watch video flash briefings and YouTube, see music lyrics, security cameras, photos, weather forecasts, to-do and shopping lists, and more. Alexa Show also displays lyrics on-screen with Amazon Music. Users just ask to play a song, artist or genre, and stream over Wi-Fi. Also, stream music on Pandora, Spotify, TuneIn, iHeartRadio, and more.

The Echo Show features room-filling speakers with Dolby processing for crisp vocals and extended bass response. Alexa on the Echo Show works with front door or baby monitoring cameras from Ring and Arlo. Amazon offers several deals on Amazon Devices to mark the launch of Echo Show.
