Apple announces to invest 200 million dollars Corning’s Gorilla glass tech

Apple rocked the newsstands today by announcing a $200 million investment in Corning Inc. Apple’s CFO, Jeff Williams stated that the investment will primarily go to Corning’s R&D department, its capital equipment needs, and high-tech glass processing.

According to further statements, it is clear that Apple has been very satisfied with their experience using Corning’s Gorilla Glass technology as the display for their iPhones and iPad for over ten years now. It was also stated that Apple highly appreciates the innovative pace of Corning.

Those who are unaware, Corning and Apple shook hands when the first iPhone was to be built, all the way back in 2007. Minds do wonder however, people ask the question, why, only after ten years did Apple decide to plant this massive investment?

Well, Apple has initiated a cause, called Advance Manufacturing Fund, to support the growth and R&D capabilities of innovative America-based manufacturing companies. The plan, announced by Tim Cook, is to spend over a billion dollars in investments to American companies in the field.

More than 2 million jobs are estimated to reap the benefits of this outburst.
