  • Lyft and Waymo to Cooperate with Each Other regarding Driverless Vehicles

It seems to be the case that Lyft and Waymo are to fully cooperate with each other regarding driverless vehicles.

Lyft and GM have a similar deal to develop self-driving technology for use on the Lyft network. Furthermore, both are non-exclusive which is a good thing. As the trend towards self-driving increases, Silicon Valley’s best enterprises are joining hands to manufacture such vehicles.

According to New York Times, Waymo has made a pact with Lyft to make autonomous cars. This collaboration is expected to bring out the very best in both firms.

This bond between the two companies underlines the rather dynamic relations between organizations in the field of driverless cars. Alliances often shift in endless combinations.

Rivals are defeated by the economic weapon of monopoly too. Take this deal between Waymo and Lyft. It means that there are some pretty serious consequences for Uber which is watching the partnership very closely.

Besides, Uber had to face a large number of issues, legal and otherwise, at its premises recently. Lyft comes only second after Uber in the ride-lending services. As for Waymo, it is also in competition with Uber. So it only makes sense that Waymo and Lyft have decided to hook up in a plan to outdo Uber.

According to NBC News, Waymo has made an accusation against Uber. It said that Uber stole trade secrets from the company in order to benefit its own self-driving schemes.

Lyft and Waymo have as a goal the making of self-driving products that are safer and more accessible as well. A judge recently denied Uber’s request to move its case in the court of law to private arbitration.

A partial injunction was also issued by the judge against Uber. Waymo meanwhile has made the case that Uber be stopped from its driverless endeavors.

According to QZ, Waymo which is Uber’s enemy in the courtroom, is now all palsy walsy with Lyft which is Uber’s enemy on the road. This is a sort of double whammy.

Uber’s fate has undergone what can only be called a strange twist of fortune. It seems to be in deep trouble. It is in hot water. Waymo and Lyft have Uber cornered from both sides.

There is no means of escape for the ride-hailing enterprise. Meanwhile, GM has its own self-driving technology as well. GM made an investment of $500 million in Lyft for the sake of making self-driving cars.

Another player in the mix is an enterprise called Alphabet. It is a complex game of alliances and rivalries that is playing itself out in Silicon Valley.
