WWDC Rumor Tips Siri Speaker and iPad Pro 2 Launch

Rumors suggest Siri speaker might have a screen

Some new Apple rumors are making the rounds according to TechCrunch that originated with KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. Kuo is known to be quite accurate with his predictions. The latest rumor suggests that there will be two new hardware devices launched at Apple's WWDC in June. Typically WWDC is the place where software is unveiled and there will be software at the conference this year.

Software tipped to be unveiled at the event include iOS 11, macOS 10.13, tvOS 11, and watchOS 4. Normally the hardware stuff is unveiled at a spring event, but word is that the hardware devices weren't ready for the spring event and have been pushed to WWDC in June.

According to Kuo, the hardware at the show will include a Siri speaker that is meant to compete with the popular Amazon Echo speakers and the iPad Pro 2. We have covered rumors about what the iPad Pro 2 might offer previously. Reports indicate that the device will cram a 10.5-inch screen into a device sized for a 9.7-inch tablet.

To pull this off Apple would have to make the bezels much thinner than they are on the tablet right now. Previous rumors also suggested that Apple would be ditching the physical home button and placing a fingerprint scanner under the glass of the iPad Pro 2. I still find that part of the rumor hard to swallow with all the reports of issues getting the iPhone 8 fingerprint scanner to work under glass.

That said, we will know for sure if supply constraints are behind Appel with that under glass sensor if the iPad Pro 2 lands with that feature in June. As important as the iPad is to Apple, the big product for the company is the iPhone and if supplies were constrained or there were issues with getting the sensor to work under glass, you can bet every bit of the supply would go to the iPhone 8.

The Siris speaker is expected to offer better sounding speakers than the Amazon Echo and have a higher price tag as well. Rumors suggest that Apple's speaker might have a screen embedded. This would make sense as it would give Apple another place to peddle apps in customer homes. WWDC kicks off on June 5, less than a month away.
