If you played video games in the 90s, chances are that you remember Sonic the Hedgehog in all of its former glory. Sure, there are some decent Sonic games available now, but you remember the joy of opening up a new cartridge and playing. That's almost what it felt like watching the new trailer for Sonic Mania. It takes you to Flying Battery Zone and gives you a closer look at Knuckles, rightfully returning to his flying ways. It appears that he's working his way through Dr. Eggman's giant airship, though it feels like something is a little off. Check it out:

The 2D platformer looks to be in good form, at least as soon (if not better) as the previous efforts of Sonic & Knuckles and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles. That video was released on the same day that Sega announced the delay of the game, which caused many fans to be somewhat unfairly critical of the trailer. This one hopes to be much nicer. It should too, because longtime fan developed Christian Whitehead is part of the project, as well as Headcannon and PagodaWest Games.

Sonic Mania will be available at some point this summer on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One. We don't have an official release date as of yet.

Don't confuse this game with Sonic Forces, which is coming later this year. That will be a modern game that blends together some of the styles that Sonic has undergone throughout the years, like 2011's Sonic Generations did.
