Kickstarter Hit Gravity Blanket Claims to Help You Sleep in Stress and Anxiety
  • Gravity: A Heavy Blanket that (Supposedly) Cures Everything Sleep-Related

The makers of Gravity have (supposedly) really done it for all those who undergo sleepless nights of tossing and turning. A heavy blanket that cures everything sleep-related is finally here (or so they say).

Gravity happens to be a high quality weighted blanket that takes touch therapy a step further by allowing gentle pressure across the human body while it is in sleep mode.

According to its campaign on Kickstarter, the blanket comprises 10% of the average human body’s weight. It helps ease any tension or body armor by lending the sleeper the feeling that he or she is being held and embraced.

Serotonin and melatonin, both hormones necessary for rest and relaxation not to mention sleep, are released and cortisol which leads to stress is reduced thanks to this blanket.

The blanket is said to be the ideal support system for a neurotic personality. It lends calmness, peace of mind and happiness all at the same time.

It minimizes body movements thereby leading to REM sleep which is refreshing and rejuvenating. The very experience of touching this blanket leads to stress alleviation. It is the best sleep solution that any insomniac may want in his or her life. Or is it?

As the saying goes though: Not so fast! Worth about $280, this blanket faced a little controversy recently that put a bit of a dent in its image.

Already there has not been much know-how available on weighted blankets. STAT, a health website requested the crowdfunding company behind Gravity to validate its claims.

According to Fortune, all the claims about treating insomnia, PTSD, OCD, ADHD, high stress levels and anxiety were weighed in the balance and found wanting.

While this object has earned funds amounting to $3.2 million, it is best to be a bit skeptical regarding it, since its claims have not been checked by the FDA.

Since anything that claims to be a final cure for any ailment is by that very definition a case of a fraudulent invention, this blanket too falls in the category of many fads and one hit wonders.

Recently, the information about all the modern day miracles wrought by the Gravity blanket were deleted from the Kickstarter site on the Internet by the company.

According to Statnews, you cannot treat psychiatric illnesses by a soft pillow or a blanket for that matter. They are problems that go much deeper than superficial stress levels that are a little off kilter.

The tall order claimed at Kickstarter was just that: too good to be true. It’s not that weighted blankets do not have any benefits. On the contrary, they do. It is just that including everything on earth as being curable by them is something to be wary of. That is because it is just not true.
