Amazon only offers the Switch consoles to Prime members.

Amazon has restocked the $299.99 Nintendo Switch with Gray Joy-Con and the $299.99 Nintendo Switch with Neon Joy-Con on Wednesday, May 17. The inventory was deep, lasting about 40 minutes. We helped through our new Tracker app and Nintendo Switch market coverage over 100 users to score a Nintendo Switch console on Amazon.

Amazon imposed a limit of one Switch per customer, which helped that more customers could get their hands on a Switch. The perhaps bigger limiting factor was Prime. Only Amazon Prime members have been able to purchase the Nintendo Switch consoles. We expect Amazon to continue to uphold this limitation for the foreseeable future.

Nintendo is ramping up the production for the Nintendo Switch, but has not disclosed what the current production capacity per month is. The demand for the Nintendo Switch will spike during the Holiday Shopping season 2017. Nintendo will set aside a large part of the Switch production during the next months for November and December. This stock piling will keep the Nintendo Switch in short supply during the next 5 months. As long as the demand exceeds the supply, Amazon will offer the Switch only to its "best" customers.

The Amazon Prime membership is $99 per year and offers a wide range of services and perks. Besides free 2-day shipping, Prime offers video and music service among other things. There is a 30-Day free trial available on amazon.com. It is likely that the Switch will be in stock again in the next 30 days.

For students the Amazon Prime Membership free trial is 6 month long. After the trial, the student membership will upgrade to Amazon Prime for 50% off. Members can cancel anytime.

The Amazon Prime membership is also necessary for the upcoming Amazon Prime Day 2017 sale on presumably July 11.

The Nintendo Switch launched on March 3 and as expected, the new console sold out on launch day. Nintendo announced on April 27 that the company sold 2.74 million Nintendo Switch consoles to date. The Japanese video game company is now fully back on track and forecasts to sell 10 million Switch consoles in the next 12 months. In April, Nintendo sold 280,000 Switch consoles in the United States. The Switch is the best-selling console two month in a row.

The Nintendo Switch is a completely new video game concept. It's a mobile console first with removable small controllers. The mobile unit with display rests in a Nintendo Switch console connected to your TV.

The mobile unit slides inside the Switch docking station, where it also gets charged. The small controllers that are detachable from the mobile unit also slide onto a home controller.

The Nintendo Switch games sell for $59.99 like the games for the PS4 and Xbox One. The Nintendo Switch game line-up includes Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Nintendo killed region locking on the Nintendo Switch. Any game sold in any region is playable on the Nintendo Switch. Big upcoming Switch games are Arms on June 16 and Splatoon 2 on July 21. Amazon offers pre-order discounts on both of the titles for Prime members to the tune of 20%.

The system includes the main console, Joy-Con (L) and Joy-Con (R) controllers, a Joy-Con grip (to which two Joy-Con are attached and used as one controller), a set of Joy-Con wrist straps, a Nintendo Switch dock (which holds the main console and connects it to a TV), an HDMI cable and an AC adapter. Two versions of the system are available: a console with a set of gray Joy-Con, and another with one neon blue and one neon red Joy-Con. Read the latest Nintendo Switch news.
