Here's What We Learned About Nintendo ARMS

Yesterday, Nintendo held a Nintendo Direct video presentation that broke down the upcoming ARMS game that is coming to Nintendo Switch. They also included some fun information about Inklings in Splatoon 2 toward the end of the presentation. ARMS is a promising game that should be fun, competitive, and easy to learn because it comes from the same team that designed the new Mario Kart 8 Deluxe game.

The video (available below) went into details about ARMS, including the characters, battle modes, attributes, and other facets that impact gameplay. There was also a teaser of a free global demo for the game, which will start at the end of the month.

ARMS Details

Let's break down some of what we've learned about ARMS:

There are many different ARMS in the game. You will be able to select from dozens of different ARMS, each one having its own special powers and abilities. You can get something like a Toaster, which has a flaming punch all the way to a Guardian, which can be used as a shield. The video below will break down some other types.

You get the chance to customize the combat. After you choose a character, you will then be able to equip yourself with two ARMS. These range in type, all the way from fists to missiles. You have to choose how you want to attack and how you want to protect yourself.

There are 10 playable fighters in this version of ARMS. Each one has his or her own fighting style which will morph and change as the game progresses. So far the characters we know are Spring Man, Ninjara, Master Mummer, Min Min, Kid Cobra, Ribbon Girl, Helix, Mechanica, Byte & Barq, and Twintelle. It is worthwhile to note their different personalities and figure out how to use each one to your advantage.

Each ARM will have its own attributes. You get to select these when you play: Fire, Electricity, Wind, Ice, Stun, Explosion, and Blind. Figure out how to mix and match for advantages. Each ARM will have different weights as well. This will affect the way you play the game. Stronger ARMS will be slower, while multi ARMS will be quicker but have less power. As you play, the ARMS will upgrade or you can manually upgrade them using currency at the ARMS Getter.

Switch Gaming Details: When playing, there are different modes you can use. It is likely that Versus Mode will be the most popular. In this mode, two fighters are able to battle it out against one another. For more people, you can play in Team Fight, which allows two players to be attached to each other and fight another team to two.

Games: There are different games to play against your opponent. V-ball is like volleyball, but the stakes are a lot higher (the ball explodes); Hoops is like basketball; Skillshot requires you to break targets as quickly as possible; Grand Prix a matches based game; Party Match, you can battle up to three other players at a time; and a progressive battle mode where you have to take down 100 enemies in a row. There is also a ranked match option where you can get better and fight someone at the same skill level as you.

Many fans are applauding the fact that Nintendo will release free software updates, new fighters, and new stages to the game. These will all be free and should occur routinely.
