Nintendo Switch Can Now Be Played with 8BitDo Retro Controller

The wireless 8BitDo controller are now working with the Nintendo Switch.

8Bitdo already enabled the use of Switch controllers with their wireless dongles. Now the latest firmware allows gamers to use the retro controllers from 8Bitdo on the Nintendo Switch.

Now the only thing missing is a virtual console for the Nintendo Switch to play classic NES games. The new firmware 4.0 is available for download on the 8Bitdo site for the NES and SNES controllers.

The controllers should be fully charged before attempting the firmware upgrade. To enter the firmware upgrade mode, users need to hold the START+L+R buttons for 3 seconds until the LEDs blink. Then connect the controller to a PC or Mac via USB. Launch the 8bitdo update tool found in the firmware download file for Mac and Windows and hit USB Update.

The wireless 8Bitdo retro controllers are on sale on amazon.com.

The supply constraints of the Nintendo Switch have eased up a bit in past days. The new GameStop Nintendo Switch bundles selling for under $400 are a good indicator for the softened demand. The bundles contain a physical blockbuster game and accessories.

Nintendo is ramping up the production for the Nintendo Switch, but has not disclosed what the current production capacity per month is. The only number the company made official is the production volume over the next 12 months. The Nintendo Switch launched on March 3 and Nintendo sold over 2.74 million units as of the end of April.

10 million Switch consoles are planned to enter retail channels until end of April 2018. The demand for the Nintendo Switch will spike during the Holiday Shopping season 2017. Nintendo will set aside a large part of the Switch production during the next months for November and December. This stock piling will keep the Nintendo Switch in short supply during the next 5 months.

As Nintendo coordinated new Switch console shipment with the launch of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, we expect the company to do the same for the next major Switch game launches.

There are also several new accessories coming on the market from Nintendo in the next weeks. See the full list of new Nintendo Switch accessories.
