Apple Inc. is currently gauging and road-testing its 5G wireless technology. Its license for this purpose shows such to be the case.

Apple is considering its next-gen 5G data speeds. The setup is termed wireless technology and it has been called millimeter wave. This could lead to the betterment of cellular activity in iPhones and other gadgets that hook people up with each other.

Apple has also been lent a license by the FCC to test 5G wireless technology, according to a report by BusinessInsider.

According to 9to5mac, the app allows Apple to test this technology from two locations in California. One is near its headquarters in Cupertino while the other one is in Milpitas.

Apple has stated that testing will take no more than 365 days. Thus Apple has no schemes to ship 5G technology in any one of its products this year. The technology is still in the stage of being gauged and tested.

Cellular networks would have to ultimately support this 5G technology speed limits. Both T-Mobile and AT&T have looked into this technology for their platforms.

It is a sensible move by Apple to test its faster wireless technology since the future devices that include both iPhones and iPads will support this technology.

5G technology is existing alongside Apple’s 4G technology. Apple has filed for an FCC application. Millimeter wave bands lead to greater bandwidth all the way upto 10 Gb/s. There are a few issues with them though especially in areas of urban sprawl.

According to Macrumors, a statement by Apple has it that access to cellular link performance was for the sake of connecting base station transmitters and receivers using the spectrum.

The equipment that Apple will use to test this technology will include Rohde and Schwarz, A.H Systems and Analog Devices. 28 and 39 GHz bands will be employed for this purpose.

Why Apple is doing all this remains a mystery. Other carriers such as AT&T, Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile are testing this technology too. Apple’s future products may benefit from this drive. For example the iPhone 9 which is due next year may carry this technology on board its platform.

According to Appleinsider, the testing period is not to exceed 12 months and that is a promise made by Apple. It is being said that 5G will be common by the time the year 2020 arrives. In fact, 5G systems will probably be ready for the 2018 Winter Olympics.
