Sony Mitene AR Coming To US

Mitene trademark filed in USPTO.

Sony Mitene AR is an interesting augmented reality solution for businesses that is on the market in China and Japan. Users can stand in front of a display and engage directly with augmented reality experiences. The system uses a Kinect sensor to detect the motions of the users. Now that Microsoft discontinued the Kinect sensor, Sony has to come up with its own solution that does not require holding sticks with colorful balls.

Sony' Mitene AR is able to detect a users' face and instantly determines sex and age range, to play content that matches the viewer’s attributes. Besides recognizing faces, the system also offers specific image detection, to play content in response to certain preset images.

The Sony Mitene AR experience may now enter the US market. Sony registered the trademark for Mitene at the USPTO office recently, spotted by the trademark sleuths LetsGoDigital.

Sony might be showing off the Mitena AR system at the CES 2018 in Las Vegas in January. While the Mitene AR solution is interesting, we are more excited about Sony's revival of the AIBO artificial intelligence robot dog.
