Nintendo Comments on SNES Classic Sales

The Super NES Classic sales numbers are out. Updated.

Nintendo released its earnings numbers for the past six months ending September 30. While once again high-riding Japanese video game maker is very forward with Nintendo Switch sales numbers, there are no unit sales details available for the SNES Classic in the reports.

The earnings release has one mention of the SNES Classic. "Super Nintendo Entertainment System: Super NES Classic Edition was off to a good start following its September launch (launched on October 5 in Japan)," states Nintendo. "Good" is quite the understatement.

In the press-conference for the earnings call, Nintendo announced the SNES Classic sales numbers as of September 30. The company shipped a whopping 1.7 million SNES Classic units according to WSJ's Takashi Mochizuki. Nintendo sold almost as many SNES Classic units in one day as it did for overall for the NES Classic.

Update: Nintendo states in the presentation for the earnings call that the company sold already through 2 million SNES Classic as of October 30.

Nintendo sold 2.3 million NES Classic consoles. The NES Classic will sell some more when it makes its comeback next summer.

In an announcement earlier this month, Nintendo boasted that the company was responsible for two-thirds of the video game hardware sales volume in September. The next earnings report from Nintendo is expected to come out at the end of January 2018. The nine months financial report might reveal the SNES Classic unit sales.

The SNES Classic is in stock at select Best Buy, GameStop and Walmart stores according to the latest SNES Classic stock report. On November 1, Target will sell the SNES Classic online, exclusively to Target REDCard holders.
