New Sony Aibo 2017 Revealed

Sony took off the wraps of the new AIBO robot dog.

Aibo is back after ten years. The new 2017 Aibo has OLED puppy eyes and can move its body in 22 axes for expressive behavior. Sony says that Aibo is able to build emotional relationships with people.

Aibo is learning its surrounding and over time will react to situations. The little Aibo is powered by deep learning technology for image and voice recognition and analysis. It has multiple sensors including a camera.

Sony Aibo ERA-1020 will go on sale in Japan on January 11, 2018. It will retail for 198,000 yen (~ $1,700) plus a monthly subscription fee. The new Aibo is only going to be available in Japan. Pre-orders are open now.

If the new Aibo will be a big success remains to be seen. The high price is already a big barrier. The video below gives a first impression how life with Aibo could be for owners.
