  • Galaxy S9 Will Likely Still Have Rear Fingerprint Scanner

The Fingerprint Scanner of the Galaxy S9 will not be a Part of its Display Screen

For those hoping that a fingerprint scanner will exist on the screen of the Galaxy S9, they may be disappointed in the end. The rumors say otherwise. Samsung has called it quits on any such plans, according to South Korea's news outlet The Investor.

A fingerprint scanner that is an integral part of the screen is something that is not going to happen. Early onwards, while people lauded the S8 smartphone for its cool screen and even cooler performance, they were not happy with its fingerprint sensor which was located towards the side of the camera. There were issues here.

The Galaxy Note 8 which followed the S8 was not something out of the blue either. Samsung may bring the feature to the S9. Apple which happens to be the largest rival of Samsung has quit fingerprint scanning in its iPhone X.

Instead facial recognition technology is used as a substitute. Thus we have the two biggest smartphone makers of the world dealing in biometrics. One uses fingerprint scanning while the other one employs facial recognition.

The reason behind Samsung continuing to concentrate on fingerprint scanning was that its facial recognition system could easily be fooled by a snapshot of the same person.
