Apple to Launch Next iPad with Face ID in 2018
  • Apple to launch 2018 iPad with facial ID and no home button

The new iPad will feature an edge to edge display but the home button will be scraped

According to insiders Apple has started working on a new high end iPad for 2018. The upcoming iPad will feature key features already seen in the iPhone X. For the first time the iPad will be released with facial ID, according to a report by Bloomberg.

In addition the new iPad will have an edge to edge display meaning the device will be slimmer but seem larger than its predecessor. However the display is not likely to be an OLED screen due to the size of the device and short production time.

The OLED screen can be seen in the iPhone X which leads to morevivid colors and sharper clarity on the display. The new iPad 2018 will be released almost more than a year after the last version of the device.

Reports suggest at least one upcoming iPad will have a screen equal to the 10.5-inch iPad Pro along with facial ID. The facial recognition will be used for executing actions such as unlock the device, make payments, and send emojis.

Another major development in the new iPad would be the end of the Home button. The home button was released back in 2010 and featured a finger print scanner since 2014 but the feature will be entirely scraped off the new iPad.

The iPad used to be Appleā€™s second-largest product line back in 2015 but sales declined by 17 since then. Apple will significantly reduce the size of the edges on top and bottom of the iPad by removing the home button.

The aim is to bring the design of the new iPad as close to the iPhone X as possible. When asked to comment on the matter an Apple spokesperson declined to comment.
