Adobe reports strong growth of Black Friday 2017 online sales.

Black Friday is transforming with big steps into an online sales event. The Black Friday 2017 lines are still impressive but might be misleading. Early sales trends show that online Black Friday 2017 sales jumped 17.6% compared to last year as of 10 am ET on Thanksgiving Day.

"Thanksgiving is shaping up to be a record-breaking shopping day. Conversion rates across the board are seeing double digit growth, and we’ll see that continue throughout the week as we expect Black Friday and Cyber Monday to pull in the most spend," says Mickey Mericle, vice president, Marketing and Customer Insights at Adobe.

Based on Adobe Analytics data, $30.39 billion has been spent online between 11/1 and 11/22, reflecting 17.9% YoY growth. 22 out of 22 days in November have resulted in over $1 billion in online spend.

Specific to today, Adobe has seen $360 million in online spend as of 10 am ET, 17.6% growth YoY. The average order value (AOV) is slightly higher for this year's Pre-Thanksgiving Day at $137 (0.8%).

The average order value (AOV) is slightly higher for this year's Thanksgiving Day at $132, up 3.2% YoY. $30.39 billion has been spent online between 11/1 and 11/22, reflecting 17.9% YoY growth. 22 out of 22 days in November have resulted in over $1 billion in online spend.

A record 44.2% of all traffic to retail sites are coming from smartphones (up 16% YoY). The share of traffic from desktops (47.6%; down 10% YoY) and tablets (8.2%; down 8.9% YoY) have decreased. These figures are based on early reads of this morning’s data, and we expect them to level out. As of yesterday, smartphones grew their share as a revenue driver for retailers with 22.3% (22.1% more than last year). Desktops still drove the majority of sales yesterday with a 68.4% share (5.0% decrease YoY); Tablets come in at a 9.3% share, with a 4.5% decrease YoY.

The average savings this year are 11.2% for computers, 15.1% for televisions and 11.4% for toys. The sharpest discounts are expected to occur on Black Friday, with televisions (24%), tablets (24%), jewelry (12%) and appliances (18%) showing the largest price decreases. Today, shoppers can expect to find the best deals on computers (16%), sporting goods (11 percent), apparel (15%) and video games/consoles (10%). On Cyber Monday discounts will be highest for toys at 19%.
