Hottest Lego 2017 Sets for the Holidays

Here are some of the standout Lego Sets of the year.

Lego is a traditional Holiday gift. My sons get Lego sets for Christmas each year, there is just no way around it. This year some of the hottest Lego sets are created by Lego fans. The Lego Nasa Apollo Saturn V Set raised a lot of attention when it came out this summer. The 1,969 piece Lego building kit was hard to find for a while but is now in stock at Amazon.com for $119.99.

The just recently released Lego Ideas Women of Nasa set is another fan creation that has turned out the be wildly popular. The Lego Ideas Women of Nasa 21312 kit is available (slightly hidden) from Amazon.com for the regular $24.99 price.

Lego still has own ideas as well. The Lego Boost set is a game changer. Lego Boost lets kids program their creations. The set comes without physical building instructions. It's all in the app. The combination of Lego and learning to code is perfect. My 9-year-old son just got it for his birthday. His first build is the Auto Builder, which is very cool, but a bit problematic. I don't recommend the Auto Builder as the first Boost build. The accuracy of the assembly line and the griping does not work most of the time. Vernie or Frankie the cat should be better to start with. Lego Boost is available for $159.95.

The new Lego Technic 6 x 6 All Terrain Tow Truck 42070 Building Kit with 1,862 Pieces is what Lego boys dream about. This huge remote controlled track is a stunner. The Technic kit features 2 Lego Power Functions motors, battery box, receiver and remote for Remote-controlled functions including drive, front steering, extendable outriggers and a working crane and winch.

Lego keeps on learning from fans. The Lego Mercedes-Benz Arocs Truck came without power functions, but Lego fans have customized the set to allow to upgrade the Arocs with power functions. We did that last Holidays and it was well worth it. We later replaced the Lego Remote with the cool SBrick to control the Arocs via an app. The Lego 6 x 6 All Terrain Tow Truck 42070 Building Kit is in stock on Amazon for $289.95.

Volkswagen Beetle enthusiasts will be excited about Lego Creator Expert Volkswagen Beetle 10252 Construction Set. The Lego Beetle is over 5" high, 11" long and 4" wide. The kit contains 1167 pieces and is apparently not an easy build as its recommended for 16 and older. The Lego Volkswagen Beetle kit is in stock at Amazon for $99.95.

With over 7,500 pieces the Lego Millennium Falcon 75192 Ultimate Collectors series has captured the desire of Lego and Star Wars fans alike this year. The $799.99 Lego Millennium Falcon kit is impossible to get as Lego is not able to satisfy demand. Resellers on amazon.com charge over $1,400 for this incredible Lego Set.
