Paleontologists have Found Fossils from Ice Age Times Beneath the LA Subway System

When the LA development authorities started work on its subway system, paleontologists were present on the occasion all the better to pinpoint any fossils found in the subterranean depths.

Thanks to their hard work and ceaseless efforts a plethora of Ice Age fossils have been found. They belong to creatures that once walked the earth in the coldest of circumstances.

The Metro Purple Line began its nascent phases in 2014 in LA. Several paleontologists were ready to explore the soil unearthed for fossils. Normally we think of paleontologists working in the countryside or wilderness but these individuals chose the city for their fieldwork.

The last Ice Age took place 10,000 years ago. There was snow everywhere and forests and grasslands were covered by it. Also woolly mammoths roamed the earth way back than.

A great many fossils of these creatures were unearthed by the paleontologists. Some of the other odds and ends included: a foreleg of a camel, vertebrae of bison, a rabbit’s jaw and the projecting teeth of a mastodon, according to Phys.org.

Also wolf remains and sabre tooth tiger fossils have been found in excess. This particular area of LA is especially rich in such old fossils.

Los Angeles has had a rule as a part of its code since the 70s that any construction work that takes place will have paleontologists present on site. This is to ensure that the natural science oddities such as fossils are not crushed beneath the human projects that take place time after time.
