Apple Confirms Shazam Acquisition
  • Apple Acquires the Biggest U.K. Music App Shazam

Apple has closed the deal on acquiring the rights to the biggest and oldest U.K. music related app Shazam

Shazam is one of the oldest and most used apps related to music out of U.K. The app is used for music, images and music recognition. The app has been downloaded for about a billion time across the world.

Some of its other prominent features include; guiding users to other sites to download and listen to the music when they are free; provides more information to users about the music and the artists behind it; it keeps charts of popular music based on the clips that it hears, and that people want to identify.

Shazam has been available for multiple platforms. Some of the biggest music tycoons have been vying to acquire rights for the app including Spotify and Snapchat.

It was reported however, that there was another big shot who has been in talks for acquiring Shazam and they might have actually acquired it. Apple confirmed that they have acquired Shazam. Not a lot of details have been revealed about the deal.

There are rumors that Apple has paid close to $400 million. Apple has not revealed how they will accommodate the app, but it will be a part of their endeavors in the music industry.

Apple issued a statement about the acquisition, “We are thrilled that Shazam and its talented team will be joining Apple. Today, it’s used by hundreds of millions of people around the world, across multiple platforms. Apple Music and Shazam are a natural fit, sharing a passion for music discovery and delivering great music experiences to our users. We have exciting plans in store, and we look forward to combining with Shazam upon approval of today’s agreement.”

“We are excited to announce that Shazam has entered into an agreement to become part of Apple,” Shazam also said in a statement to The Verge. “Shazam is one of the highest rated apps in the world and loved by hundreds of millions of users and we can’t imagine a better home for Shazam to enable us to continue innovating and delivering magic for our users.”
