Atari to Welcome Pre-Orders for its Ataribox Home Console on December 14th

Pre-orders for the Ataribox are to begin starting from Thursday of this week. Atari is a classic game company that has come up with an NES retro console. An official email, obtained by CNet, was sent out from Atari to consumers who showed an interest in buying the console.

This Ataribox console had its teaser campaign come out way back in June and then again in July. The second time around, the Atari 2600 look-alike PC came in two alternatives: one showed a faux wooden finish while the other one was black and red and quite modernistic in its outlook.

The gadget will have a customized AMD processor on board and will run the Linux program in its context. Thus both old-time Atari games and PC titles that came awhile back can be played on this console.

The device will be sold in stores for between $250 and $300. Originally, Atari had full plans to sell it on an Indiegogo platform, yet now it seems that it might change its mind and forgo the crowdfunding approach.

This Thursday could be the launch ceremony of this console or Atari could sell it through a different retailer. Only time will tell what Atari holds in store for its customers.
