Groupon makes Super Bowl comeback.

Groupon had three star-studded Super Bowl commercials in 2011. After a seven-year break, the marketplace company makes a come back to the Big Game. The Groupon Super Bowl 2018 ad will have a celebrity appearance and will be about how Groupon is saving people money.

Groupon will release their new Super Bowl commercial before the Super Bowl LII game on Sunday, Feb. 4, 2018. In 2011 the Groupon "Tibet" titled Super Bowl ad starring Timothy Hutton caused a controversy. People did respond well to the ad making fun of celebrities raising awareness of social causes.

Groupon will be crafting the message of the new Super Bowl ad very careful to not run into another controversy. "You have to stand out but you also have to make sure your message is clear and that your humor is not misconceived," said Groupon’s head of North America marketing, Jon Wild to AdWeek. "We have a clear message now." On the other hand, raising controversy is a great way generate more attention for a Super Bowl ad. Controversy starts the conversation.

A 30 second Super Bowl 2018 ad is priced this year above $5 million by NBC. The TV network aims to generate more than $1 Billion in revenues with the sale of Super Bowl LII commercials. The available Super Bowl 2018 ad slots are supposed to already almost sold out by now.

The Super Bowl 2018 will take place at the U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota on Sunday, Feb. 4, 2018. The Super Bowl teams will be determined in the AFC and NFC Conference Championships on January 21, 2018.
