Russia wants to Construct a Five Star Hotel aboard the International Space Station

We have all heard of space tourism. Since space was the final frontier, it wasn’t long before attempts at making it a source of attraction for tourists began in earnest. Such agencies as SpaceX and Virgin Galactic want to send passengers towards the areas beyond the stratosphere.

The only problem is that such experiences are not for the man on the street. They are the domain of the ultra-rich. It takes millions of dollars per person to arrange for such circumstances that allow for space tourism to take place.

The Russian space agency has however set its hopes high and wants to send tourists on five star hotel vacations into outer space. It wants to build a suite or two aboard the ISS.

The hotel will include cabins with portholes. Hygiene will be taken care off and there will be facilities such as a gym to keep the tourists busy. Also Wi-Fi facility will be available.

As these lucky tourists get to look upon our big blue marble (the earth) from the black environment of outer space, they will get to conduct space walks thereby increasing their pleasure in a manifold manner.

The trip will last from seven days to a fortnight depending on the situation. Normally, it will cost $40 million per person, according to PopularMechanics.

Those who want to experience a spacewalk and also extend their stay for a month or more will have to pay $20 million more. Thus Russia’s overall plan to make a return to space tourism may just work in the long run.

It is a 20 ton, 15.5 meter long module that Russia wants to construct as a part of the ISS. Russia has been in this game since the 1990s.

It will take half a decade for this luxury hotel module to be constructed alongside the ISS. That means that the first space tourists enjoying the red carpet treatment will begin in 2022.
