Apple has reviewed and enacted reviewed guidelines including apps and games offering loot boxes

Apple has been facing many allegations regarding privacy issues from its customers. The latest slew of allegations included users saying that Apple was keeping their face scans for some conspiracy program through its facial ID on iPhone X.

Apple assured users and experts that the data of the users will remain private for the user and the company will not use their ID for any other purpose other than security.

Apple might have started to reconsider all their guidelines after coming to conclusion that the allegations and rumors need to be addressed before they become set in stone. They have reviewed all the guidelines for their App Store.

Among the revised guidelines is the revision and enactment of the revised guideline for apps and games offering loot boxes.

In their guideline, Apple stated that "Apps offering 'loot boxes' or other mechanisms that provide randomized virtual items for purchase must disclose the odds of receiving each type of item to customers prior to purchase."

This is an important step for games which have been offering loot boxes in gameplay as source of offering virtual merchandise and occasionally some rare objects for the game.

There are two ways to get a loot box. The players can play the game and clear certain levels or challenges to get the loot box. Or they can make direct payments to unlock the loot box that they want.

The problem remains that a big percentage of users that play these games are children and teenagers and they do not fully understand the payment process. Hence, they can end up paying hundred of dollars to get their desired items and merchandise after buying several boxes.

Games like Hearthstone and Clash Royale are among the games which will have to implement these changes for their loot boxes. Apple has also revised several other guidelines to protect the privacy and user safety.
