The Super Bowl LII is not available in 4K anywhere.

Each year since 4K TVs have become affordable, the question comes up, will the Super Bowl broadcast be in 4K? Again, the answer is no. NBC will broadcast the Super Bowl 2018 in HD. There are 4K cameras in the Super Bowl stadium, but the footage is used for special effects and is downscaled for the broadcast.

The broadcast of the Winter Olympics 2018 in PyeongChang, South Korea is going to be available in 4K HDR and even in virtual reality. NBC Olympics will distribute the 4K HDR footage, provided by Olympic Broadcasting Services (OBS) and Japan’s NHK, to U.S. distribution partners. Comcast brand Xfinity will be among the providers that make the Winter Olympics 2018 available in 4k HDR to its costumers.

According to Broadcasting & Cable, the 4K Olympics coverage will be available on delay and will include footage from the Opening Ceremony, hockey, figure skating, short track speed skating, ski jumping and snowboard competitions. Up to four event from the previous day’s competition will be available in 4K.

NBC will also offer more than 50 hours of live virtual reality coverage powered by Intel True VR during the 2018 Olympic Winter Game.

Owners of new HDR enabled 4K TVs will have a great experience watching the Winter Olympics 2018. You only need a provider who will give you access to the 4K HDR broadcast of the NBC Winter Olympics. The 2018 Winter Olympics coverage begins on February. Authenticated users with Windows Mixed Reality headsets, Samsung Gear VR, and both Google Cardboard and Google Daydream, with compatible iOS or Android devices can immerse themselves into the events at PyeongChang via the NBC Sports VR app.

The more than 50 hours of live VR programming, supplied to NBC Olympics by its partner Olympic Broadcasting Services (OBS), will include the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, alpine skiing, curling, snowboarding, skeleton, figure skating, short track, ski jumping, ice hockey, big air and more.

In addition, NBC Olympics will offer VR replays of all events previously live-streamed. One daily 360-degree video of a sport not available in VR the previous day; and packaged highlights from the day before.

When a Super Bowl will finally be streamed or broadcasted in 4K is unclear. A Super Bowl in virtual reality appears to be even further out. As the Olympics show, technically a 4K broadcast of the Super Bowl is possible, but the Big Game stays HD for now.

The Super Bowl 2018 ads chart now starting to take form. Super Bowl advertisers are announcing their expensive commercials closer to the Big Game than in past years as consumers attention span is decreasing. Most of the Super Bowl 2018 social media and marketing campaigns will kick off in the week before the Super Bowl taking place on Sunday, Feb. 4. Read the latest Super Bowl 2018 ad news.
